Founding Engineer

Job description

Founding Full Stack Engineer (Consumer Finance Startup)
$150,000 - $170,000 + 0.5% Equity + Flexible PTO + 401k
San Francisco, CA - Onsite

Are you an experienced full-stack Software Engineer, looking to join a very promising early-stage startup in an environment with fast iteration and a founder-led culture?

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping a consumer-facing financial platform that is rethinking how everyday users interact with their money. You'll work with a small, highly technical team to build experiences that leverage personalization, abstraction, and intelligence to guide users through financial processes rather than confuse them.

You'll be joining a San Francisco-based startup with a mission to modernize financial interfaces for millions of people, moving fast and iterating on impactful features. The team is building complex data pipelines, consumer-facing applications, and intelligent workflows to make financial tools intuitive and user-friendly.

As part of a focused, high-caliber engineering team, you'll take ownership of critical backend and full-stack systems, help design scalable data pipelines, and ship features that are directly used and appreciated by end users.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role perfect for engineers who thrive in early-stage, product-driven environments with minimal oversight and a strong bias for action.

The Person

  • Full-stack software engineering experience, ideally with backend infrastructure or distributed system expertise
  • Proficiency in TypeScript, React, Redis, Postgres, and AWS (CDK, EC2)
  • Experience designing scalable, performant systems and integrating with third-party APIs
  • High ownership and autonomy in fast-paced, early-stage environments, with strong problem-solving skills and empathy for end users

The Role

  • Own critical backend infrastructure, syncing financial and project data across fragmented legacy software in real time
  • Solve deep technical challenges, including gnarly third-party integrations and scaling distributed systems
  • Contribute to architecture, engineering culture, and product decisions while owning features end-to-end-from conception to deployment and observability
  • Work onsite in San Francisco
