Packaging Engineer - Customer-Facing / Technical Account Focus
Chicago, Illinois (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)
$90,000 - $100,000 + 10% Bonus + Global Training + Long-Term Progression + Full Benefits
Excellent opportunity on offer for an experienced Packaging Engineer to move into a customer-facing, technically focused role, acting as the primary technical interface between OEM customers and a global packaging organisation.
This role is not a hands-on design position. Instead, it suits a packaging engineer who understands design principles and CAD outputs but prefers to operate at a technical ownership and coordination level - reviewing concepts, challenging assumptions, guiding solutions, and ensuring customer requirements are translated into robust, manufacturable packaging.
The company is a global provider of engineered transport and industrial packaging solutions, supporting large, technically demanding OEM customers across advanced manufacturing sectors. As part of continued growth, they are strengthening their customer-facing technical capability in the US market and are seeking a packaging engineer who can represent the business with credibility and authority.
In this role, you will be the first technical point of contact for customer engineering teams. You will lead technical discussions, review and validate packaging concepts produced by internal engineering teams, coordinate across sourcing and manufacturing, and manage technical alignment throughout the project lifecycle. While CAD knowledge is important, you will not be responsible for producing detailed designs day to day.
This role is ideal for a packaging engineer stepping away from hands-on CAD execution and into a more consultative, applications-style position, with greater customer exposure, influence, and ownership.
The Role:
- Acting as the technical interface between customers and internal engineering teams
* Leading customer-facing technical discussions and packaging reviews
* Translating customer requirements into clear technical briefs and solution direction
* Reviewing and validating packaging designs produced by engineering centres
* Coordinating across engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing to ensure feasibility
* Managing technical alignment through project delivery
* Supporting commercial outcomes through technical credibility rather than sales activity
* Full package: $90,000-$100,000 + 10% Bonus + Training + Progression + Full Benefits
The Person:
- Background as a Packaging Engineer / Packaging Specialist
* Strong understanding of packaging design principles and CAD outputs
* Experience with industrial / transit / corrugated packaging
* Comfortable operating in a customer-facing technical role
* Confident reviewing, challenging, and guiding engineering solutions
* Structured, analytical, and fact-driven communicator
* Experience working between customers, operations, and suppliers
* International or OEM-facing experience beneficial but not essential
