Quantity Surveyor

Job description

Quantity Surveyor
£65,000 - £80,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits
Ipswich - Office based with hybrid working after probation

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a long-established main contractor delivering a varied portfolio of refurbishment and new-build projects across East Anglia. With projects ranging from £1m to £30m, the role offers exposure to interesting, well-run schemes and long-term career security.

Are you a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor looking for stability, repeat work, and a business that genuinely values its people? Do you want to work on well-funded projects with realistic programmes, strong processes, and a leadership team focused on long-term growth rather than short-term gains?

The business is a financially secure, cash-rich main contractor with over four decades of history and an excellent reputation across Suffolk, Cambridge, and the wider East Anglia region. Projects include commercial, education, healthcare, public sector, and hotel developments, with a strong pipeline of repeat work from long-standing clients. Growth is steady and controlled, with plans to increase turnover by £4-5m through repeat frameworks and trusted client relationships.

You'll join an established commercial team, working across multiple live projects and taking full commercial responsibility from procurement through to final accounts. The role offers autonomy, support from senior leadership, and involvement in projects from early stages through delivery.

This role will suit a seasoned Quantity Surveyor with strong commercial awareness who enjoys negotiating with subcontractors and managing accounts end-to-end. Candidates with slightly less experience but strong fundamentals and the right attitude will also be considered.

With clear succession planning in place, this role offers long-term progression toward Senior Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Management positions. You'll be joining a business with excellent staff retention, a supportive culture, and a genuine commitment to rewarding performance.

The Role - Responsibilities
* Managing subcontract procurement and placing orders
* Setting and maintaining cost value reconciliation and forecasts
* Pricing variations and managing change control
* Producing bi-monthly commercial reports
* Client liaison and financial reporting
* Agreeing and closing final accounts

The Person - Requirements
* Proven Quantity Surveying experience within a main contractor environment
* Strong knowledge of JCT contracts (NEC experience beneficial but can be trained)
* Experience delivering projects within commercial, education, healthcare, or public sector
* Confident subcontractor negotiation and account management skills
* Stable career history with a proactive, can-do approach
