Portfolio Manager / Electronic Trader

Job description

Portfolio Manager / Electronic Trader - Discretionary and Event Driven

$150,000 - $400,000 + Equity + Flexible PTO

Manhattan, NYC

Are you an experienced event-driven or special-situations trader who understands how markets move around catalysts, and want to help shape how machines learn to think like human investors?

This is a rare opportunity to join a well-backed, highly profitable startup that combines LLMs and quantitative modeling to systematize discretionary trading.

The team is building models that merge human intuition with machine intelligence-turning the playbooks of top analysts and PMs into scalable trading systems.

You'll serve as the domain expert for the ML team, translating discretionary and event-driven trading logic into modellable systems. There's no P&L or live order management-instead, you'll focus on breaking down complex decision-making processes, guiding model design, and validating outputs against real-world trading behavior.

The culture is analytical, ambitious, and deeply technical. Expect high ownership, direct collaboration with founders, and meaningful equity upside.

The Role

  • Partner with the ML and research teams to codify discretionary and event-driven trading logic into systematic models.
  • Break down complex strategies-merger arb, special sits, catalysts-into structured hypotheses, features, and data signals.
  • Validate model behavior and align outputs with real-world trading intuition.
  • Define evaluation frameworks and risk logic based on human decision-making.

The Person

  • 3+ years as a Portfolio Manager, or Senior Analyst in event-driven, special situations, merger arb, or catalyst equities.
  • Deep understanding of discretionary workflows, from information gathering to sizing and execution.
  • Excited by the challenge of turning human expertise into scalable intelligence.
  • Willing to work in-person from Manhattan
