Job description

Embedded Hardware Engineer - Optical Systems

$145,000 - $165,000 + Medical + Dental + Vision + PTO
Austin, TX (Hybrid 3 days onsite)

Are you an Embedded Hardware Engineer with a background in designing IR camera assemblies, looking for an opportunity to grow your technical skills in the MedTech industry and help develop a one-of-a-kind 3D Scanner used in surgeries?

This is an exciting opportunity to work on life-saving technology as a key individual contributor. You will make a significant impact within a highly skilled, like-minded, and close-knit team with a fun culture while working on life-saving technology. The company is a stable MedTech startup that develops 3D optical scanners for precision surgery.

In this role, you will design and integrate IR camera systems on a SoC/FPGA platform, develop firmware for real-time data acquisition and processing, and implement high-speed communication protocols with a Linux host. You will collaborate across teams and with external vendors to optimize hardware performance, ensure low-latency imaging, and support integration into larger medical or robotic systems.

This role would suit an Embedded Hardware Engineer who is looking to work in a high-impact role and grow his/her technical skills within optical systems.

The Role:
* Design and integrate IR camera assemblies (lenses, filters, sensors) on an SoC with FPGA platform.
* Develop and maintain embedded firmware for sensor control, data acquisition, and peripheral management.
* Implement high-speed communication protocols (Ethernet, USB, PCIe, FMC) between embedded hardware and external Linux host.
* Collaborate cross-functionally with software developers, mechatronics engineers, and external vendors to integrate and optimize system performance.
* Ability to work Hybrid - Monday, Wednesday, and Friday onsite

The Person:
* Embedded Firmware Development: Proficient in FPGA programming (VHDL/Verilog) and microcontroller firmware for sensor control.
* Experienced with Optical Systems like IR image sensors, lenses, filters, and calibration for real-time imaging applications.
* Skilled in implementing protocols such as Ethernet, USB, PCIe, FMC, and other high-speed interfaces.
