Occupational Health & Safety Manager

Aylesbury / High Wycombe / Amersham

£39,581 - £44,547 + Local Government Pension Scheme + 38 Days Holiday + Free Parking + Discounted Childcare + Career Progression

Are you an experienced Health & Safety Advisor, Health & Safety Officer, HSE Advisor or Site Manager looking to take the next step in your career within a varied, rewarding role?

Do you want to join a welcoming Further Education college where you can take ownership of health and safety across multiple campuses, develop your expertise and enjoy an excellent public-sector benefits package?

This well-established college provides a supportive and collaborative working environment, with approximately 3,000 students across its campuses. Joining the Estates and Health & Safety team, you'll work closely with the Head of Estates and Health & Safety, alongside the Campus Managers, playing a key role in maintaining safe working environments for students and staff. With a varied workload and opportunities to develop your wider estates management knowledge, this is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career.

In this role, you will provide health and safety advice and guidance across the college, undertaking risk assessments, audits and inspections while helping departments implement safe systems of work. You'll work with staff across a variety of environments, including higher-risk areas such as construction workshops, ensuring health and safety legislation is applied effectively. You'll also help identify potential hazards, support risk management and promote a positive health and safety culture across all three campuses.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of health and safety legislation, alongside experience in risk assessments, auditing and safe systems of work. A NEBOSH Level 3 General Certificate is essential and any further qualification will be beneficial. You'll be a confident communicator who can build relationships, provide practical advice and work collaboratively with colleagues rather than taking an overly prescriptive approach. Experience within education is not essential, making this an excellent opportunity for candidates from construction, engineering, facilities or other relevant industries.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected college offering long-term stability, a generous pension and holiday package, and the potential to progress into a wider estates leadership role in the future.

The Role

  • Provide health and safety advice and guidance across the college
  • Carry out risk assessments, audits and health and safety inspections
  • Review and advise on safe systems of work and relevant legislation
  • Identify hazards and support departments in managing workplace risks
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture across the college
  • Work closely with the Head of Estates and Health & Safety and Campus Managers
  • Support health and safety across teaching environments, construction workshops and operational areas
  • Travel between the Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Amersham campuses
  • Full-time, 37-hour week, Monday to Friday
  • Predominantly site-based role

The Person

  • Experience in health and safety, HSE, construction, engineering, estates or facilities management
  • NEBOSH Level 3 General Certificate, ideally completed, although candidates studying towards it may be considered
  • Knowledge of risk assessments, auditing and safe systems of work
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and practical risk management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively
  • Happy to travel between all three campuses and work predominantly on site
  • Interested in developing their career, with potential to progress into wider estates management
