Are you an electrically biased engineer with Building Management Systems (BMS) experience looking to specialise in advanced controls rather than carrying out routine maintenance?
This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the UK's leading institutions, where you'll receive ongoing technical training, work with cutting-edge building technologies and develop into a true controls specialist within a highly skilled engineering team.
Supporting a large and technically diverse estate, you'll play a vital role in maintaining, improving and optimising critical building management systems that support world-class teaching, research and innovation. Working across a variety of complex buildings, you'll gain exposure to sophisticated controls infrastructure while developing your technical expertise in a supportive environment.
You'll be responsible for maintaining and fault-finding on BMS systems, ensuring building services operate efficiently and reliably. The role offers plenty of variety, combining planned maintenance, reactive fault diagnosis, system optimisation and continuous improvement projects, making it ideal for someone looking to progress their career within controls engineering.
If you're looking to move beyond traditional electrical maintenance into a more technical, specialist role with genuine long-term career prospects, this position offers the perfect next step.
The Role
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive fault finding across Building Management Systems.
- Diagnose faults and optimise HVAC, heating, ventilation and air conditioning control systems.
- Work with TREND, Niagara 4 and other BMS platforms to monitor and improve system performance.
- Respond to alarms and live system data, prioritising critical issues to minimise disruption.
- Assist with system upgrades, optimisation projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Liaise with and supervise specialist contractors when required.
- Maintain accurate system records, backups and asset information.
The Person
- Electrically qualified engineer or technician with experience working on Building Management Systems.
- Good understanding of HVAC systems and building services controls.
- Experience with TREND, Niagara 4 or similar BMS platforms.
- Strong fault-finding skills with the ability to interpret schematics and diagnose control system issues.
- Comfortable working within occupied commercial or public buildings.
- Basic networking knowledge (Ethernet/IP) would be advantageous.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Keen to develop into a specialist Controls or BMS Engineer through ongoing training.
- Electrical or Building Services qualification (City & Guilds, HNC or equivalent) preferred.
